George W. Henderson and Alice Ann Henderson, guardians of William and James Brian [Bryan], state that according to an order dated 6 July 1853, the petitioners were authorized to sell slaves belonging to the estate of Arthur Bryan [Brian], provided the slaves were not sold for less than their appraised value. The petitioners explain that they have attempted to sell the slaves "pursuant to the terms prescribed by the said order but without success." The Hendersons now ask the court's permission to sell the slaves "for the most money which they can obtain."
