Fielder Owens, guardian and father of Richard Nicholas Owens, states that sixteen years ago his sister, Elizabeth Owens, bequeathed to Richard a young female slave named Bet. The petitioner reports that Bet now has three children, and the expense of taking care of her family is more than Fielder can afford. He asks permission to sell Bet and her youngest child, John, and invest the proceeds "in some other property which will be productive and profitable to his ward."
