Trustee B. J. B. Worthington states "that he is directed by" a court decree to sell a slave "after an advertisement of three weeks." The effect of said decree will be to "divest the defendant Linstead who now holds him [the slave] in possession, of all right and title" to said slave. The trustee fears the property "to be in jeopardy" as the slave is "not far from the city of Baltimore and situated upon a navigable river leading to the Chesapeake Bay," which "affords abundant opportunity of escape." The petitioner asks the court to order Linstead to deliver the slave to his possession. The trustee's report states that Linstead purchased John at a private sale for $600.
