Petition #20985330

Abstract

Henry Owings asks the court to rebind Kitty Boston, a free person of color, to his service as an apprentice. As the result of an earlier suit initiated by Kitty's father, Daniel Boston, the orphans court revoked Kitty's indenture to Owings. Here, Owings explains that he was "ignorant" of a law that restricted him from loaning out Kitty to his daughter's family and claims he was "induced so to do by the Solicitation of the father of the said girl." He asks that Kitty be rebound to him "as a reimbursement of the trouble and expense the girl has been since she was bound."
