William Fisher, a free man of color, contends that he has been apprenticed within the past month to David Stewart without his own consent. Fisher claims that he can support himself and was actually doing so at the time. Since the binding out, Stewart has treated Fisher "in a cruel and improper manner." Fisher asks the court to release him from the apprenticeship, declaring that he is willing to offer "whatever security the law may require ... that he shall be properly supported and clothed."
