In mid-September 1855, Daniel Sprigg, trustee for Ann Norman, bought for her a "mulatto" term slave named Josephine Murry. Sprigg and the Normans now contend that Josephine has a "very, bad & mean character" and that she has "already absented once" and stolen money from Michael Norman. The petitioners ask the court to extend Josephine Murry's term of service and to authorize them to sell her "under the provisions of the act of assembly in such case."
