Petition #20985564

Abstract

Isaac and Lucy Williams state that Lucy's son, William Henry Smith, was bound as an apprentice to William McNeir without their consent. They further state that they are "abundantly able" to support the boy and that they "are not insolvent or worthless, but maintain a good character in their neighborhood." The Williamses ask the court to investigate. In his answer, McNeir counters that he found Smith "in the city of Annapolis wandering about the streets without home, destitute without food, and having no one to care for him," and he represents that the boy is "anxious and desirous" to remain with him.
