Petition #20985729

Abstract

Mary Ann Brice, the widow of James F. Brice, believes "that She has good and sufficient ground of exceptions" to the accounts filed by Thomas Brice, the administrator of her late husband's estate. In one objection, Mary Ann alleges that Thomas "has not charged himself in that account with a sufficient sum as hire of the negroes belonging to the estate and has claimed too large a sum as expenses therefor." She cites that five of the seven slaves are "able bodied and valuable servants," two of whom possess skills as a carpenter and a waiter. In addition, Mary Ann claims that she has not received her rightful portion of the interests earned on the slaves' hire and that Thomas has not reported the interest earned on various bank stocks and bonds held by the estate. Mary Ann asks that Thomas answer her charges.
