Richard Weems states that on 28 April 1857 the court added twelve months to the term of his slave, Charles Brown, on account of Brown's "bad conduct." The petitioner now reports that Brown has run away again. Weems fears that Brown "will continue to run off and may be lost to your petitioner." He prays that Brown's term of service may be extended and that he may be permitted to sell him "in or out of the State of Maryland" as remuneration "for the expenses he has incurred."
