Petition #20985967

Abstract

J. Shaaff Stockett, administrator of the estate of the late Ella Snowden, states that he was authorized by the court in February 1859 to sell the slaves in Snowden's estate at private sale. Stockett reports that he did sell all of the slaves at their appraised value except for one slave woman (who was the mother of the other slaves) and her two youngest children. The health of the slave woman is "delicate" and Stockett does not believe he can realize her appraised value. The petitioner asks permission to sell the woman and her children at a public sale "for the most money they will bring."
