Richard Wood explains that Nilly Smothers, "an old free woman," placed in his care "a free negro boy named Andrew Jackson, without Father or Mother." Wood explains that Jackson has been living with him for three years and three months and that he is now about fourteen years old. The petitioner claims that he "has had considerable trouble with said boy and that now as he begins to be of service, his relatives in Baltimore are trying to take him away." Wood asks that Jackson be bound to him.
