Abstract

John Thomas claims that his term slave named Georgiana Brooks is "a woman of intemperate habits, and given to other vices." He alleges that she "pilfers and sells for drink everything of any value, she can lay her hands on about the house," including clothing and jewelry and "his marketing." Thomas states that "she runs off from him and seeks the lowest sinks of vice among the vicious and digraded of her own Color." He claims that "she has cost him for her thefts and loss of time, a considerable sum namely, at the lowest estimate, fifty dollars." Thomas asks the court to extend her term of slavery and to permit him to sell her out of the state.
