Petition #20986128

Abstract

The petitioners, the executors of Philip B. Sadtler's estate, had previously received permission to sell an estate term slave named Jacob "to Mr Richard Swann of the Naval Academy at Annapolis for the sum of $250." However, "the disturbances at Annapolis soon after caused him to decline the purchase." They report that Jacob ran away and "was recaptured at Washington City." They allege that Jacob is "vicious in habits and frail in strength" and that "the most money they can obtain for him" is $100. They ask the court to authorize them "to sell boy Jacob to his half brother Levi Davis for the unexpired term of his servitude for the sum of one hundred dollars cash."
