Petition #20986409

Abstract

Archibald George Dodson petitions the court claiming the entire residue of the estate of his granduncle, Thomas Green, a free person of color. Dodson represents himself as "devisee of one half, in his own right, and as sole heir and legal distributee of Charles Dodson Deceased, his co-devisee of the other half." He acknowledges "a certain Elvira Ramsay," who has appeared with her husband, James Thomas Ramsay, in response to an order of publication passed by the court in a previous case. Elvira Ramsay, a resident of "Georgetown, Demerarra, British Guiana," claims to be "a sister of the half-blood of the said Charles Dodson." The petitioner explains to the court that he has arranged with the Ramsays "a more easy and expeditious settlement of the estate," whereby he will receive sole possession of his deceased brother's legacy in exchange for "the Sum of five Dollars Current money of the United States of America."
