Abstract
Daniel Joshua, a free person of color, petitions from jail that he is accused of murdering a "negro Woman called Rose Bennett, alias Rose Joshua." He claims that he is detained "contrary to law," and asks the court to grant him a writ of habeas corpus so that "he may be discharged or admitted to Bail."
