William Covington, the father and guardian of five Covington children, purchased two slaves in 1837, with money that the petitioners inherited from their uncle Richard. The petitioners now claim that their father illegally sold the two slaves, "favorite family servants to whom your orators are attached," to Milton Love in 1840. Seeking to have their slaves returned, the Covington children ask that William Covington and Milton Love be made defendants to this suit and be subpoenaed to answer these charges.
