Petition #21084414

Abstract

Before her marriage to Samuel Taylor, Ann Guphill placed her property in trust with Vincent Bell, in order to protect the property from Taylor's debts. Ann's property included slaves inherited from her deceased husband as well an interest in other slaves that she had purchased from other legatees. In 1843, Ann executed her will equally dividing all her property between Bell and William R. Taylor and in 1844 she died. William Taylor, a minor at the time of Ann's death, alleges that Bell mismanaged the slaves he held in trust for Ann. Taylor also claims that Bell has refused to grant him his rightful inheritance from Ann's estate. He asks that Bell be called to answer these charges.
