Rowena Chandler married John Williams and when Williams died in 1827, Rowena's father, Willis Chandler, gave her several slaves. When Williams's estate was administered, Rowena's slaves were not included in the inventory. In 1835 Rowena left Virginia and moved to Mississippi and in 1839 she married Philip Edington. The slaves remained in their possession until 1843 when Jesse Wintersteen took them, claiming them as part of John Williams's estate. The Edingtons have requested the return of the slaves, but Wintersteen refuses and they ask for help in gaining their return.
