Mary W. McMullen, the widow of Daniel McMullen, states that her husband died intestate on 2 November 1848, leaving her and five minor children as heirs. She asserts that said estate consists of 160 acres of land, thirteen slaves, sixty thousand pounds of cotton, and various other articles; she estimates "all of said personal estate ... to be worth not exceeding five thousand dollars." The petitioner prays that she be granted letters of administration and that appraisers be appointed "to value &c the goods and chattels and personal estate of said intestate."
