Abstract

Emma Perkins states that her brother, Edward Exum, was appointed guardian of her and her three sisters in October 1841. On 22 September 1847, the "common property of your petitioner and her sisters" was divided among the heirs, but Exum retained possession of Emma's share of the slaves until 2 January 1849; one slave woman, Dorcas "however was not embraced in said division, from being absent from the state." Perkins "is advised that she is entitled to have" Exum's account "reviewed by your honorable court" and that, in the event it is ascertained that she be due an amount from Exum, "a decree against Exum" issue for said amount.
