On 10 December 1849, Milton Odineal recovered several judgments against William N. and Martha Bilbo for various amounts owed to him. The sheriff of Noxubee County levied on the Bilbos' property, including six slaves owned and possessed by the said Martha as her "separate estate." Citing that Martha’s slaves are "worth about three thousand Dollars," the petitioners pray that the sheriff be "restrained by the order of this Court" from selling her separate property.
