Petition #21085113

Abstract

In 1811, William Kinneson sold to his daughter Lydia McGee "a certain negro girl slave named Jude or Judy, then aged about six years old," for "two bales of cotton and one Horse." In 1815, McGee loaned Jude to her parents. Jude and her subsequent children and grandchildren remained in the Kinnesons' possession with McGee's consent until Mr. Kinneson's death, and then in Mrs. Kinneson's possession until her death in April 1851. Now, McGee states, Hiram T. Adams and Abraham S. Guice have instituted suits, claiming the slaves. McGee says that their claims are false and fraudulent and were aided in part by her mother. McGee asks that Adams, Guice, and Sheriff W. M. Wentworth be subpoenaed; that they be ordered to release the slaves into her possession; that she be awarded the proceeds of the slaves’ annual hire; and that her claim of ownership be settled.

Result: Dismissed.
