Petition #21085118

Abstract

Elizabeth Duncan states that she owned several slaves in her own right at the time of her marriage to William Duncan; after the marriage, William managed said slaves. Elizabeth contends that William "has managed said estate in such a careless negligent and improvident manner as not only, not to increase the same by purchase of other negroes and property, but has actually been compelled to sell seven of them the most valuable on the place." The petitioner therefore prays that "the title to said negroes and their natural increase be divested out of said deft and be invested" in a trustee "for the sole and seperate use of your Oratrix and to be at her own absolute disposal for her support and maintenance."
