Petition #21085235

Abstract

Adeline Morgan represents that she married Nicholas Morgan in 1846 and that they lived together until 1852 "when without any fault on the part of your Oratrix the said deft drove your Oratrix from his house and refused ever since to permit her to return to her home." Adeline further asserts that at the time of said marriage she owned "in her own right three negro slaves." She reports, however, that the said Nicholas sold twenty-one-year-old Susan to Terrell Moore, for which she has only received half of the proceeds from said sale; in addition, she fears her husband "will run her said two negroes Phillis and Dick from this state to defraud your Oratrix in the premises." Adeline therefore prays that her husband "be decreed to deliver up to your Oratrix said negroes Phillis & Dick and that he also be decreed to account for their hire & profits while in his possession." She also requests "that he be also decreed to deliver up to your Oratrix said note on the said Terrell or if he shall have collected the same to account therefor."
