Araminta Squires Sansing joins her husband and brother in stating that her mother Ann Squires purchased four slaves in 1839, "by which purchase the said Ann Squires became entitled to a life estate in the said slaves" and she and her siblings "became entitled to the absolute property in said slaves subject only to the said life estate." The petitioners charge that the said Ann sold the slaves, after the death of her husband, to a Mr. Redman, a slave trader who transported them out of state. Of the four original slaves, the petitioners only know the location of Ruthy, a female who has since had 2 or 3 children. Fearing that James Davis, Ruthy's new owner, will transport her and her children to "parts unknown," they ask for an order to seize the property subject to a resolution of their suit against Ann Squires and James Davis.
