Martha A. Harvey asks the court to dissolve her marriage to Joseph A. Harvey. She charges that her husband violated the "most solemn pledge" of marriage by committing "the crime of adultery with a certain negro girl named Mary, the slave of said defendant." The petitioner asserts that she does not "ask for Alimony or any provision out of the estate of said defendant, that said defendant has made such provision for her support and maintainance as your Oratrix is therewith content." Martha does, however, pray "that the bonds of matrimony between your Oratrix and the said defendant may be made null and void, and the same be for ever dissolved."
