Petition #21085546

Abstract

Harrison Hale and Abram Murdock seek an injunction restraining Edward Dunning and others from taking a slave girl named Victoria out of Mississippi. Hale and Murdock claim that Joseph Goodman, trustee of the estate of his wife Eliza, executed a promissory note for "the money thus advanced" for the purchase of "provisions, in order, not only [to] keep the said users from actual want, but also to preserve the said trust property from want." They report that Goodman has since left the state and that “the said negro girl Victoria is the only part or portion of said trust property under the jurisdiction of this Hon Court." The petitioners ask that the sheriff seize Victoria or that sufficient bond be posted until the matters of the case can be resolved.
