Petition #21085638

Abstract

Daniel Hollman sold a mulatto slave named Billy to John Purdy. At the time of sale, Purdy agreed to pay the sum of $900 to Hollman by 1 March 1856; "to secure said payment," Purdy executed a deed of mortgage "upon the said negro man named Billy." Asserting that "said note still remains due and unpaid," the petitioner prays "by Decree said negro man Billy may be ordered to be sold ... and that he may be reimbursed and paid the amount of his said note and all Interest and costs due thereon."
