Petition #21085736

Abstract

John M. Copeland, guardian of William Copeland, states that a slave named Mary and her seven young children are part of William's estate. Because the children are "too young to be put to labor, and said negro woman with her young children are not fit to be hired out," the petitioner asks that the slaves be "kept at home and treated kindly." The petitioner is willing to support William and "also to support and maintain said negro woman and children free of charge as to taxes sickness or otherwise."
