Jane Flint states that her father, Edward B. Moseley, "gave her a negro boy named George while the said boy was yet an infant" many years ago. She further avers that she removed said George from her father's house in 1858 upon her marriage to John Flint and that the said George was "then & having all along been her property and always and at all times known & recognised as such." The petitioners complain that the sheriff has on several occasions levied on the said slave to satisfy the debts of the said Moseley. Arguing Jane's absolute right to the slave, the Flints pray that the defendants "be enjoined from selling said boy under said order of sale."
