Green Berry Logan, by his mother and next friend Judy Logan, charges that "Berry Meechum a free man of color ... holds him in slavery." Claiming that he was born after his mother moved to Indiana and "long after her right to freedom accrued," Logan "prays that he may be permitted to sue as a poor person by the said Judy ... in order to establish his right to freedom."
