Abstract
Amy Moore reports that she was hired out for two years in 1830, against her will and consent, to Mr. Marbly in Springfield, Illinois. Charging that Robert N. Moore now claims her as his slave, the petitioner maintains that her residency in Illinois entitles her to receive her freedom under the laws of that state. She therefore prays that she may be permitted to "sue as a poor Person to Establish her right to Freedom."
Result: Petition granted; plea of trespass filed.
