- St. Louis County, Missouri. March 13, 1844. - circa March 13, 1844.
- Court: Circuit
- Salutation: to the honorable Saint Louis Circuit Court
Abstract
Andrean Paschall, a man of color, petitions for his freedom from Richard Ulrici. The petitioner claims that Gabriel Paul, his former owner, took him to Illinois, six or seven years ago. Paschall argues that the laws of the U.S. and of the State of Illinois entitle him to his freedom. Now held in slavery in St. Louis by Ulrici, the petitioner prays the court "to grant him leave to sue as a poor person in order to establish his right to freedom and to assign him counsell for his assistance in that behalf."
Result: Petition granted; plea of trespass filed.
