Daniel Nelson, a slave emancipated in the will of Benjamin Nelson, deceased, asks to be freed, noting that his owner gave him thirty five acres of land. In a related document, John Nelson, Benjamin's brother, asserts that "there is no person that hath any JurisDiction over" Daniel but himself, and that he has "none but to Defend him and keep Well in the bounds of the Law."
