Petitioning in conjunction with his eighteen-year-old slave Rebecca, planter Solomon Parks asks for a license of emancipation. Rebecca has served him with distinction, and has "conducted herself uprightly, honestly, morrally, religiously, & faithfully." She is literate, Parks says, and would not be a burden on society.
