On 4 February 1858, Amos Jacobs was convicted of trading with a slave. Jacobs is about seventy years old and in poor health. He planned to appeal the judgment, but neither he nor the elderly woman who promised to provide his surety could make it to court because of a heavy snow storm. Asserting that he "is entirely innocent," he seeks an extension for his appeal.
