After eight years of marriage, free born woman of color Zilphire Ann Goings charges her husband, who was also born free, with abuse, abandonment, and adultery. He mistreated and abused her, she explains, threatened to take her life, and lived in open adultery with Ruth Bass, a free woman of color. Meanwhile, Zilphire remained faithful to her vows of fidelity and chastity. She seeks a divorce.
