Abstract
Robert L. Michael is imprisoned in the Davidson County jail on charges of murdering Martha Davis, a black girl. He believes that he is being unjustly held and is entitled to "discharge or at least to bail." He asks for a writ of habeas corpus requiring the sheriff to bring him before the court so that the cause of his detention "may be inquired into and relief offered." Related testimonies reveal that Robert Michael was approximately fifteen years of age and Martha Davis thirteen.
