Petition #21379201

Abstract

Mary, Catherine, and Elizabeth Inglis "conceive themselves proper objects for the Interposition and Protection of this Honorable Court." They explain that their aunt, Elizabeth Middleton, bequeathed slaves, land, and other property to them. They further state that their aunt's will stipulated that they were to receive their inheritance "so soon as the last shall arrive to the age of Twenty one Years or be Married." The petitioners confess that they have been left "utterly destitute" by the recent death of their father and the "much embarrassed" condition of his estate. Noting that the youngest petitioner is "now an Infant between the ages of Thirteen and fourteen years," they pray "your Honors to take their case into your consideration and that you will be pleased to direct the Executor of Mrs Elizabeth Middleton deceased to pay to Alexander Inglis their Guardian such a sum or sums of money annually or half yearly (out of the Estate so as above devised to them) as to your honors may seem reasonable and proper for the maintenance and support of your Petitioners."
