Thomas Waties, "Trustee of Mrs. Ann Bay & her children," asks that the court sanction and confirm the exchange of four slaves. Waties reports that he "has been induced at the request of the said Ann Bay to convey a certain negro woman named Affy & her child Harriet ... to George Paterson of Columbia in the said State in exchange for two negro women slaves named Hester & Mary." The petitioner purports that said exchange "is for the benefit of the sd Ann Bay & her children, inasmuch as the said negroes conveyed to him ... by the said George Paterson are of much greater value than those conveyed to the said George Paterson by your petitioner." He therefore prays that "his act in the premises may be sanctioned & confirmed by your Honorable Court."
