Petition #21381928

Abstract

The grandchildren of the late Sylvester Dunn ask that ten slaves, in whom they have a remainder interest, be sold. They inform the court that the said Dunn "bequeathed and devised to your petitioners, to be equally divided amongst them after the decease of their late mother Sarah Douglass" ten slaves. The petitioners purport that they "are desirous that partition and division of the said negroes should be made amongst them but being satisfied that an equal distribution cannot be made amongst them of the said negroes without manifest injury to some of them." They therefore pray that the court "order that the said negroes may be sold at public sale, and the proceeds thereof divided amongst them in equal shares."
