Petition #21382125

Abstract

Rebecca Philips and Robert Yates, administrators of the estate of the late Zachariah Philips, ask the court to compel John Creyon to comply with the terms and conditions of his purchase of four slaves, whom he bought at public auction from Philip's estate. The sale, which occurred on 2 November 1821, included "12 negro slaves; among them 3 carpenters and a Bricklayer." John Creyon bid for and purchased four slaves, Suckey and her three children, at the price of $945. Since that time, Creyon has neither paid on the balance nor issued a note for the slaves, and the administrators attest that they have not been able to "convince him" to do so.
