Jincy Ballard, widow of James Ballard and administratrix of his estate, seeks to recover a female slave named Sylvia and Sylvia's five children from Samuel Caston. Ballard contends that the said family of slaves belongs to her late husband's estate. She further asserts that her husband made multiple payments to Caston for the slaves, but Caston maintains that the late Ballard never discharged the complete purchase agreement.
