Petition #21382321

Abstract

John and Cicily McCaw, two of the heirs of Allen Degraffenreid Sr., complain to the court that the administrator of the estate has defrauded the widow and other heirs. The administrator, Thomas G. Blewit, married DeGraffenreid's daughter Regina in 1815 and received numerous loans and advancements over the next six years. The McCaws claim that after Allen DeGraffenreid died intestate in 1821, Blewit and his wife obtained the estate papers and account books and concealed them from the other heirs in order to avoid repaying debts they owed to DeGraffenreid. According to the McCaws, the Blewits also received shares of the estate, despite signing agreements in 1817 that acknowledged the various advancements (land, "a valuable gang of negroes," livestock, furniture, and money) as their share of the estate. The McCaws charge that as administrator of the estate and guardian of the minor heirs Blewit has defrauded the estate and the heirs in various ways. The petitioners pray for a complete and full disclosure of the administration of the estate with various adjustments and repartition of property.
