Petition #21382831

Abstract

Providence Arthur, on behalf of herself and her minor son, John, seeks "a full and particular account" of all the "actings & doings" of the executor of the will of her late husband, William Arthur. Shortly before the couple married, William received four slaves from the estate of his late father, Hargrove, who died in 1816. William specified in his 1823 will that these slaves should be put in trust for the education of his two sons, William S. and John M. Arthur. He died shortly thereafter, as did his son, William Jr. Providence Arthur now charges that Daniel Morgan, who qualified as the executor of William's will, has mismanaged her late husband's estate. She claims that, aside from ten dollars, she has received none of the profits from the slaves' hire to provide for John's education. She asks that Morgan's executorship be revoked and that she or some other fit person be appointed guardian for her son. She also seeks a partition of the estate between her and her son and requests compensation for the slaves' annual hire.

Result: Granted.
