Petition #21382911

Abstract

Anne Bryan, the widow of the late Dr. Fortunatus Bryan, joins her children in asking John Mulligan, the executor of Bryan's estate and guardian to Bryan's minor children, for "an account and settlement of his transactions in relation thereto." The petitioners point out that Bryan died "seized and possessed of a considerable estate consisting of lands, negroes, plantation stock of every discription and choses in action." They report that Mulligan "took into his possession and under his sole management the estate of the testator." They further contend that he "under various pretences which your Oratrix and Orators charge to be frivolous has hitherto evaded comming to such settlement or to render an account of his proceedings as such executor and Guardian." The Bryans pray that Mulligan be compelled to answer their charges and be ordered "to abide and perform such order and decree thereon as to your Honors shall seem agreeable to equity and good conscience." Depositions include the hire values of the estate slaves.
