William B. Quinn attests that "Alfred Hardy is desirous that I should be appointed his guardian And that I am willing and do hereby accept of the appointment of guardianship for the said Alfred Hardy a free person of colour." Quinn further certifies "that the said Alfred is of good Character & correct habbits." [The actual petition of Alfred Hardy is not included in the Project's documents; however, Quinn's acceptance of guardianship and certification of Hardy's character is used in lieu of his petition.]
