Petition #21383311

Abstract

Elizabeth Thompson, widow and executrix of the late Alexander Thompson, is joined by her son, John B. Thompson, in asking that the lands in the estate be sold "as soon as practicable." Elizabeth Thomas also serves as guardian for her five minor children. The petitioners inform the court that the real estate is "constantly deteriorating in value, and the rents thereon are not equal to the interest of the value thereof." Deeming it "manifestly to the advantage of the legatees," they asks that the lands be sold "and the proceeds placed at interest so far as the minor children are interested, or invested in such ways as the Court may direct." John B. Thompson is now of age and asks that he receive "his portion thereof according to the Will." Thompson's will directs that four specifically named slaves "be kept upon the Plantation to make a support for my family."
