Petition #21384809

Abstract

Mary L. Richardson, the guardian of Maria T. Richardson Walker, asks that "the small property of her daughter ... may be settled upon the said Augustus Walker the husband and the said Maria T. Walker in trust to and for their joint use and benefit during their natural lives." Richardson reports that her daughter "received the following slaves, Polly and two children Sam, and Jane" from the estate of James Richardson, "the father of the said Maria T. Walker, by his last will and testament." She further reveals that "two other children of the slave Polly have been born" since the "division and allotment of the said Estate was made." Noting that both her daughter and son-in-law are minors, the petitioner affirms that the said Augustus is "consequently incompetent to take charge of and manage said state without the intervention of this Honorable Court." She therefore prays that said property be placed in trust; in addition, Richardson consents "to act as Trustee in the Settlement to be made according to the prayer of the above Petition."
