Agnes B. Rice, widow and administratrix of the late Reuben S. Rice, seeks to settle his estate. Rice died intestate in 1842 possessed of a 1450-acre plantation and slaves, now numbering 101. The petitioner and her six children are Rice's only heirs. The petitioner asserts that she "has kept the property together and worked the hands upon the land in common." She is now of the opinion that "there is more than a sufficiency due the said Estate" to pay all of its debts. Therefore, she prays that the court order a distribution of the land and slaves among the heirs.
